Build Your Housekeeping Library: Mrs. Dunwoody’s Excellent Instructions for Homekeeping

Mrs. Dunwoody’s Excellent Instructions for Homekeeping: Timeless Wisdom and Practical Advice by Miriam Lukken is an entertaining book full of practical advice and wisdom for running any home. Miriam has used her own great-grandmother (a southern belle that held the art of homekeeping sacred) as inspiration for the “character” of Mrs. Dunwoody, passing down timeless and sage advice (that seems to have skipped a generation or two) for creating a nurturing and comforting home. With ten chapters touching on “the art of homekeeping,” laundry, entertaining, the kitchen, health and beauty, family and marriage, the garden and more you are sure to find useful nuggets to apply in your own home! Even though the advice is based on 19th century advice, the wisdom aligns well with our concerns today about harmful chemicals, environmental degradation, and the state (or lack) of our family and social lives. The book is available in print and as an e-book, and we highly recommend adding it to your housekeeping library (or at least checking it out from your local public library)!
