Ok so it isn’t spring anymore—in fact summer is in full swing. But we wanted to keep the Green Spring Cleaning series going and share a recipe for wood floor cleaner. This recipe comes from the awesome little book Make Your Place, but we’ve also got some links to share with you for other wood and floor cleaning recipes. Caution: this is a concentrated recipe and you must clean the floor using a dry mop.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 20 drops peppermint oil

Directions:

  1. Combine the ingredients in a spray bottle and mix well.
  2. Use this spray sparingly, working on a small section of the floor at a time. Spray it on (again sparingly – don’t soak the floor in it) and then wipe it away with a dry mop. To give the floor a shiny finish run over it again with a dry mop.

We like using Swiffer’s Dry Mop, and it’s a steal at only $8.99 for the starter kit! If you want some more recipes for cleaning your wood floors (or other hard flooring surfaces) check out this list from Tipnut! The recipes are more diluted and you clean the floor using a damp (not soaking wet) mop.

Will you be trying this recipe out? Do you have any DIY wood floor cleaning tips and tricks to share?
